4th Grade Program: The Chemist and the Architect
The Chemist & The Architect

This hands-on social studies program engages students with an interactive learning experience focused on three key objectives: understanding an individual’s economic impact on an area, exploring and defining the three types of resources (natural, human and capital) and defining entrepreneurship.

7th Grade Writing Program: At the Dow House
7th Grade: At the Dow House Writing Program

Designed to cultivate creativity, this English program immerses students in a stimulating, unique environment where they develop and practice their writing skills focusing on vivid sensory details. Prompted to explore spaces in the house, staged with original items belonging to the Dow family, students are encouraged to use their storytelling abilities in imaginative ways to develop a piece of creative writing.

6th-8th Grade Young Writers’ Studio
6th-8th Grade Young Writers’ StudioThe Young Writers’ Studio (YWS) is a monthly after-school writing club for middle school students. Held at the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio, writers of all levels enjoy this inspirational and supportive space for sharing ideas through dedicated time for writing and creative exploration.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Classes

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) ClassesThe life and legacy of Alden B. Dow and his family act as a springboard for IB Theory of Knowledge students as they consider the course’s Twelve Key Concepts and Areas of Knowledge. The Home & Studio’s inspirational architecture enhances the learning experience by immersing students in a variety of spaces throughout the year, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Throughout two semesters, students explore the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio inside and out, where its innovative design encourages learning by presenting diverse perspectives, promoting open-mindedness, and fostering empathy and understanding. Students attend weekly for one year.

Bay Arenac Career Center Engineering & Drafting Program

Bay Arenac Career Center Engineering & Drafting Program (High School)In partnership with the Bay Arenac Career Center, students engage in hands-on study of the Alden B. Dow Home & Studio. They measure spaces in detail, analyze Mr. Dow’s original drawings and floor plans in the Archives, and create precise 3D models using advanced drafting software and 3D printing technology. This partnership provides an invaluable opportunity for students within an architecturally complex National Historic Landmark.
